A broom might
say, "I’m a brush with a long handle used for sweeping up floors! Yes, I’m
a tool used by people to help keep things clean and tidy. I know why I’m
here!"
A refrigerator might
say, "I’m an electrical appliance that keeps things cool. Food stored in
me will tend to stay fresh and will not spoil so fast. I know why I’m
here!"
A
telephone
might say, “I’m an electronic device that aids communication. People use me to
pass information no matter the distance. I know why I’m here!”
Why
am I here? Sometimes as I look around and observe the world I live in, life
seems very meaningless.
I
see people dying. The average person only lives to be about 70 years old and
even lesser in Nigeria. I see wars--people killing and being killed. I see
sickness and sufferings.
I see disasters (earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, fires, floods, airplane and automobile crashes, etc.). I see people going through their daily routines: waking up, getting dressed, eating, going to school, going to bed, etc. But have they been true to themselves to ask this question “why am I here?”

No one on earth was born
without a purpose. If a broom, refrigerator, a telephone which were made by
humans all have a purpose for their existence, then do you think that you who
is made by God (in His image) would not have a purpose for existence? Never! It
is just that you have failed to recognize and develop it. The
person who makes something (the maker) knows why he is making it! Or have you
ever seen something in this life that does not have a function? Without God,
man will never understand the purpose for which he has been made hence we must
not leave God out of the picture.
Some people due to
circumstances have thought within themselves that they are not born to be
great. Some people whatsoever they do seems bad; people are not satisfied with
their deeds. Some commit suicide because they feel they are objects of
nonentity and that they don’t have anything good to offer the mankind but the
holy book says “a man’s worth is not in the abundance of things he possesses.
We must see ourselves as useful first before others can see that. If we do not
have a will then we’ll be used by some other persons to fulfil his own will.
That’s why we have more slaves than masters because most people have not known
why they are here. So they act as slaves helping others fulfil their purpose.
Let’s see this parable a caring mother told her
lovely daughter:
A
young woman told her mother how hard her life was. She didn't know
how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was
tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed that as she solved a
problem, another one arose. Her mother took her to the kitchen.
She filled three pots with water. In the first pot, she placed carrots.
In the second pot, she placed eggs. In the last pot, she put coffee
beans. She let them sit and boil without saying a word. After
about 20 minutes, she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots
out, and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out, and placed
them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and place it in a
bowl. Turning to her daughter she asked '' What do you see? ''.
''Carrots, eggs and coffee'' the daughter replied. The mother brought
her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did, noticing that
they had become soft. The mother again asked her to take one
egg and break it, pulling off the shell, she discovered the
hard-boiled egg. Finally, the mother asked her to sip the coffee. The
daughter smiled as she tasted its richness. ''But what's the point mother
'' the daughter asked. The mother explained that each of these
3 things had faced the same adversity --BOILING WATER-- but each reacted differently.
-The
carrot went in strong, hard and unrelenting. However, subjected to
the boiling water, it softened and became weak.
-The
fragile egg had an outer shell to protect its liquid interior.
But after going through the boiling water, it became hard &
stronger inside.
-But
the coffee beans were different. When they were in the boiling water,
they TRANSFORMED the water into something sweet.
''When
adversity comes knocking'' the mother asked ‘‘How do you react? Are you a
carrot, egg or coffee bean? '' Which are you? This is what we should
ask ourselves. Why are you here? In life there will be adversities. But the way
you face them is what matters. You are here to cause a change, a transformation
to your world. No matter what life throws to you, you are here to reply
positively to life. Are you like the coffee that when the water gets hot,
the coffee bean releases its fragrance and flavour for
everyone's benefit? The coffee bean uses the hot water, the very
circumstance that brought pain, to transform itself and the
water. '' If you are like the coffee bean, when things are at their
WORST, improve yourself & TRANSFORM the situation around you ''.
Unfortunately, most of us are
being carried away by what others say,
what others have, what others are. Do you know that those
who follow the crowd usually get lost in it? I don't know all the keys to
success, but one key to failure is to try to please everyone. Myles Monroe said “When purpose is not known,
abuse is inevitable”. In other words, if you have not known why you are here,
then you have been abusing and wasting the life God gave you.
You are not here by mistake. You are not a biological and coital
accident. You are here in order to enable the world to live more amply, with
greater vision, with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. You are here to
enrich the world, and you impoverish yourself if you forget the errand. Do you
know that the mystery of human existence lies not in just
staying alive, but in finding something to live for? If you have nothing to
live for or no purpose to fulfil, then living becomes nothing but a waste. It
does not matter how long you are spending on the earth or how much money you
have gathered or how much attention you have received. Do you know that the
purpose of life is to contribute in some way to making things better?
You shouldn’t come to this life and go without making a
positive impact to the world. You are here to change the world. You are a
change agent! Ask yourself these questions.
Did
I offer peace today? Did I bring a smile to someone's face? Did I say words of
healing? Did I let go of my anger and resentment? Did I forgive? Did I love?
What Do You Live For? "I live for the Lord Jesus Christ. God has
created me so that I might know Him and glorify Him and enjoy Him
forever!"
While it's true some people seem to find their life
purpose easier than others, it's also true that God really does have a
plan for every single person, even if it takes a while to see what it is.
Do you know that God wants you to be truly happy and
fulfilled even more than you do?
WHY AM I HERE?
As a writer, I know that I am here only to serve humanity
(by transforming our world) and my creator (by preparing for eternity).
I
would end it with a word from a famous writer, Rick Warren “Life is a gift... Life is a
test... Life is temporary
assignment....”
