It all started like this: One legend contends that
Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When
Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those
with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine,
realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform
marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine’s actions were discovered,
Claudius ordered that he be put to death.
I have heard of this beautiful story over and over
again – Saint Valentine died because he wanted love to be fully expressed.
Valentine is all about love and that is why we all try
to show it distinctively every February 14 of each year. But our youth, I mean
the unmarried, how do they perceive today being February 14, they claim it is
valentine but to me, I know it is violent-time.
A time when the guys are ready to do anything to have
sex with that girl who has proven so tough all along. It is a time when even
wives get violent with their husbands because he doesn’t have plans to take
them out today. A time when churches organize love feast and everyone dresses
in red, red? Did I hear you say red? But red signifies danger or violence? Really?
Violent-time?
What are you celebrating today, Valentine or Violent-time?
You go to the bar, pool side or club, sit down and get
drunk with a pretty girl by your side but your wife is at home alone watching Telemundo?
Valentine should express love not lust. It should
represent God for God is love but how many ladies would go for abortion in a
month’s time due to unwanted pregnancy. And the unlucky ones might be fighting
with STDs or their father HIV (AIDS). What a violent-time indeed!
Valentine should give you another opportunity to remember
the one who showed you love. (John 3:16) God sent Jesus his son to redeem you
because he loves you with an everlasting love. This is the true expression of
love. A love that saves. Jesus suffered and died shamefully just to regain your
pardon and to give you an inheritance in God’s kingdom.
Valentine is another opportunity to remember those
orphans whose parents have abandoned them for several reasons. It is a time
where husbands and wives come together and strengthen their dying love.
Valentine not Violent-time
is when youths should love their future by living right today with Jesus. Valentine is that day when families should
come together to appreciate one another.
My dear, celebrate Valentine not Violent-time. Don’t get involved in things that you live to regret
thereafter. Don’t lose your virginity because of Samsung Galaxy 6 or an iPhone
because some girls had previously lost theirs because of blackberry curve2!
Remember, it is Valentine not Violent-time!
