The origin of Valentine is attributed to different myths and ;legends.
We can not say which is true or false. Let’s see what this myth says;
The Catholic Church recognizes at least three different saints named
Valentine or Valentinus, all of whom were martyred. One legend contends that
Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When
Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those
with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine,
realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform
marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine’s actions were discovered,
Claudius ordered that he be put to death.
There are other myths as well but I ain’t interested with the myth but
with what happens during valentine celebration.
From past experiences, we have discovered that Valentine gives an
opportunity for us to express our love and ignite our love through different
gifts and actions.
Although Valentine is not biblical but we can make sure we use it to glorify
God. Valentine should not be celebrated only on a particular day (February 14) because
our creator shows us an everlasting love daily and his mercies endureth for ever.
Our Creator is the originator and retainer of true love. So when we talk
Valentine, we should talk God’s Love, the agape type.
God’s love is unique and special. It should exist among families,
spouse, colleagues, partners etc. It should exist between the government and
the citizens. But most of us refuse to show love, we live in hatred. We allow
others love to determine our own love. Our love should be independent of other’s
love just like God still loves us even while we sinned continually.
Any time you hear Valentine, always remember that God’s love is greater
than all other love. Take note that Living without Love is dead. Show love
today. Present gifts with love, speak your words with love.
Happy Valentine.
