If
there was any better option for most of us here on earth about leaving for a
more pleasant, and better planet, we will all leave Earth. Am I right?
Everything
seems to be in chaos. We have been moving from one level of disorganization to
another. Africa has been classified as a third world continent. Poverty is
stirring us at the face without remorse. Our loved ones pass away, not because
of anything but for poverty and poor health care facility. Right now, inflation
is becoming the order of the day even after the World Bank and IMF told us that
we are out of recession. We are yet to feel its impact on our lives. The rich
are getting richer, while the poor are getting poorer. Our leaders have been
promising us heaven on earth if we vote for them. However, they turn against us
for their pockets after getting power. The graduate out there is tired of
applying for jobs. The undergraduate out there is wondering which uncle,
brother, or friend can help him get a job because the future looks bleak. Our
secondary school students or better still jambites are not left out in the
struggle, as they are already frustrated about getting admission. Some do not
even know how to finance themselves through school.
Everything
looks so frustrating and difficult. The only hope we have now is when our
pastor prays and tells us how much God loves us. Sometimes we even doubt if God
is still alive or maybe He is out of Earth. Bosses who sometimes molest their
employees and take them as victims are molesting those who finally got jobs.
If
I ask any of you here personal questions, I will realize that one thing is
common: we are all hurt! Am I right?
Hurt
by our relationships, our parents, our friends, our employers, our business
partners, our pastors, hurt by even our God and ourselves. For those that have
not been hurt (very few of us), I pray that you do not get hurt. Once again I
say, "People are already hurt: Show them love!" No matter what
happens to you, never add to other's hurt. The world is not a beautiful place.
Even Job 14:1 tells us that a man born of a woman is of few days and full of
troubles. Jesus faced more tribulations and you cannot be exempted.
Nevertheless,
my message today is what role do you play in others’ hurt? Do you worsen it? Do
you increase their pains? Or do you ease them? People are already hurt. If there
is anything last thing you should learn this year, it should be love!
Unconditional love. The love that would make men remember that God exists! Debasish
Mridha says "By loving others unconditionally, we open the door of
happiness."
How can you love?
We
know that one can never give what he does not have. You can only give out love
when you have it within. Therefore, you start from first loving yourself. It is
only then you can pass it on to others. Love yourself. Remember the second
commandment "Love thy neighbor as thyself". Someone once said
"Love yourself. It is important to stay positive because beauty comes from
the inside out." How can you love
yourself when you are still angry with yourself for not making that decision,
for not taking that risk, for hurting that person? First, forgive yourself. Let
it go. It will be a new year in few days. So forgive yourself. Start the new
year on a clean note. Love comes from inside out. As I said, you cannot give
what you do not have! You can't!
Kemi
Sogunle says if you do not love yourself, you will not be happy with yourself.
If you cannot love yourself, you cannot love anyone else. You cannot give the
love you do not have. You cannot make anyone love you without loving yourself
first. Some of us have lost our ego and self esteem. My dear, please pick them
up. Give yourself some love. Give yourself some appreciation. If not for
anything, at least for your life. It is the best possession you can ever have. It
is a sign that God still values and loves you dearly.
Our
Lord Jesus said in Matthew 5:16, 'In the same way, let your light shine before
others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. It
is when you have a light, that is when you can let it shine. The devil does not
have a light, so we do not expect anything good from him.
What Next?
Spread
your already built love to others. When people offend you, bless them in
return. When people hurt you, love them in return. When people betray you, pray
for them. Be like Jesus. Even after Peter denied Him thrice, He still handed
over the ministry to Him (that is love- God's kind, agape love)
That
is the love the world needs. Show them this love not hate, not hurt! They are
hurt enough and they do not love themselves either. However, you have a
different source, a unique character, a regenerated Spirit. How would you be
able to differentiate yourself from others if you hate as they hate, and hurt as
they hurt?
Lily
Amis said "It doesn’t kill you to be nice, kind, loving, caring and
respectful. Try it!" I have had different experiences this year about
this. One particular occasion, a lady told me she would hurt me with her words.
I was shocked because she professed to be a Christian. Really she hurt me, I
felt bad. The next day I went to apologize to her (even though she was at
fault).
Dear,
some people are out there to steal your joy. Do not give them that opportunity.
When they throw hurt at you, respond with love. That is what God is looking
for. GroomingEmpoweredYouth is a vision incited by God to help you and I
fulfill our God's purposes of which loving people are very crucial! As I round
up, remember that you can NEVER be poor by giving and showing love to others.
It
is the love you give that comes back to you. No matter the hurt, Keep loving
for God is Love!
